πŸ“Œ ドラベース ⚾

Basic Info:

Dorabase is a sports manga and spinoff to the long running series Doraemon that was created by Shintaro Mugiwara and ran between 2000-2011 and finished with a total of 23 volumes by the end of it's seralization in CoroCoro Magazine. Despite it being a Doraemon-related spinoff, it barely has any focus on Doraemon's character and instead, focuses on a brand new cast of characters that were made specifically in mind for this new series. (At best, Doraemon makes an apperance at the begining of volume 1, showing that he used to be on a baseball team before taking care of Nobita in the main series.)

Dorabase focuses on an amateur baseball team called the Edogawa Dora's, who are infamous in their area for never winning a game and are often seen as losers because of it. Outside of Hiroshi and Mika, the team mostly consists of robot cats, with Kuroemon being the main focus of the story. However, other members of the team get their own spotlight once in a while as the series progresses.

There are also a number of rivals throughout the series, with the most iconic ones being Shiroemon, Drump, Emoll, and Monta.

A sequel, called Shin Dorabase, ran between 2012-2014 and only ended with 4 volumes. In 2018, a one-shot was published in CoroCoro Magazine, which seemingly takes place between Dorabase and Shin Dorabase and when the Kabutomushi Cup is running again.

Throughout the years, special edition volumes and collections have been been made as a way to highlight favorite and iconic moments in the series. Plus, in more recent times, CoroCoro has started uploading high quality scans of the manga online for free and for a limited time depending on what arc it is.

Outside of the manga, two DS games have been made during the run of the original series and ROM's for it are pretty accessible online. However, no English patch for it exists, so it's suggested using a mobile translator in order to understand dialogue and directions. (It's somewhat easy to play without it, but still. Figured I'd recommend it anyway.)

An online translator is also suggested for reading Dorabase and Shin Dorabase as no official English translation exists. However, a fan translation does techically exist, but I personally wouldn't recommend it because the English in it can be pretty broken at times and it's extremely unfished and practically abandoned by this point. However, I won't completely shut it down as an option if you're desperate and want a decent starting place that's in English and not in Japanese.
